Peggy Bonnington

STATEMENT OF ARTIST:

Although I have always “done art” on some level, I went through a dry period when I devoted my energy almost exclusively to teaching my special education students. For me, art has gone through metamorphic periods of transformation, including the time I felt a need to lay off because it involved too much ego. In the last few years, as I have come to recognize that I constantly (LITERALLY!) think about and plan “works,” I have accepted art and the creative process as an intrinsic need and have resumed (happily accepted) my fate. I live it and breathe it and am graciously supported in “my habit” by a most understanding spouse. I work intuitively rather than with true discipline, and am inspired by forms in nature, including circles, spirals, trees, repetitive patterns, and ~ yes, us humans!

MEDIA: Painting (mostly acrylic), drawing, collage; Paper and book arts, including handmade paper (HMP), bookbinding, and altered books; Ceramic mosaic work incorporating broken china, Italian glass tile and smalti, ceramic tile, stone, and found objects; Concrete stepping stones with mosaic designs.
